in the 90s, the ticket office staff coming out and handing out raffle tickets. If you didn't get a raffle ticket you had no chance of getting a match ticket, so you may as well go home despite queuing up for hours.

I have fond memories of queuing on a Sunday morning for the Forest semi final tickets. The line stretched past Upton Park station by the time I got there but still managed to get a ticket.

Was a regular occurrence then. My first memory of queuing for tickets was with my dad for a 1981 League Cup final ticket. We queued from Park Road (down the side of the Duke of the Edinburgh). The ticket office was then situated on the upstairs concourse of the old west stand.

Still got tickets three tickets, and gave mum a day out at Wembley as well.

I drove myself back as fast as I could for that and was at Upton Park for 9pm.

Some lunatic called Barry (soon to be stabbed at Reading in a friendly) was smashed and threatening people with a knife before someone broke his nose.

Sort of ruined the atmosphere!!

The club doesn't owe them a living.

Loved the Nuns

Not really sure what the traders were expecting - yeah it's a gutter, but can't see how the club could have moved them with us.

Aalborg, remember those night/days well. Went up to Man City away in 1994 on the coaches. Once we got back to the ground just headed to the Boleyn for some beers, a queue was already forming for tickets away to Kidderminster in the FA Cup. When we finally left the pub, we queued throughout the night, I remember it snowed early hours as well.

Some of my happiest memories come from the Sundays when we got up to Upton Park to join the queue for cup tickets...we'd leave the ground after the Saturday game..,have a few beers,go home to Hampshire and then be back in Green Street at 7 o'clock on the Sunday!

Don't forget Upton Park was also bombed during the war, so there is a serious amount of history there that isn't just associated with football.

None of the other grounds were really surrounded by anything other than houses.

ludo, maybe cos they were moving about 200 yards away I'm guessing.

There is something inherently interesting about the East End to the whole nation. Difficult to put your finger on it, maybe because of the genuine likability/intrigue for the 'cheeky chappy'.

West Ham, for all its charm is a club that has never threatened to be anything more than what it is. Most of the fans are realistic, down to earth, hardened supporters living in a world whereby money has (most of the time) propelled other clubs and their fans.

And I think thats all being recognised in the press and will be over the coming week..

I don't even remember that much fuss over Highbury

I was just going to say that. Southampton are a nothing team really, so can understand no national fuss about The Dell. City were still well in Man Utd's shadows when they moved, even though Maine Road was more of an iconic stadium than The Dell.

But there was nowhere near as much press coverage, nationally, about Arsenal leaving Highbury as there is about us moving.

Loved that, totally different to the BT one.

I don't even remember that much fuss over Highbury, apart from their claret kit?

That explains some of it, but there is also the effect of the romanticised east end that's been present since the times of Dickens at work here as well.

No, but West Ham have a large and influential presence in the media.
